It turned out to be a beautiful day in Texas and a perfect day to go the the outdoor range. The plan was to go for just an hour or so to get the borrowed rifle zeroed and head home. Yeah, right! After I took the first shot with that Marlin 336 30-30 I was hooked.
For all of the BANG that comes from that rifle it had surprisingly little recoil. I started with the 50 meter target and had no problem placing a nice 3 shot group. Then I moved on to the 100 meter target, 150, 200, 250 and 300. Two of the three shots into the 250 were bulls eye. This, I believe, does not say as much for my marksmanship as it does for the rifle and scope. Suffice it to say that I will need to pick up another box of ammo before the week is up.
After zeroing the 336 my friend, Tony, who also happens to be the range safety let me fire his M4 with the 22 conversion. That was alot of fun! We shot at golf balls down range and with .22 ammo as cheap as it is we were able to shoot for quite awhile before we went dry.
