I mentioned in one of my posts that a friend had loaned me his Marlin 336 a lever action rifle for a hunting trip. I have always oogled the Henry Repeating rifles and wanted to shoot one just because I thought the lever action was really cool. When my friend offered his Marlin for the trip I was all for it. I sped to his house to make sure he wouldn't have time to change his mind and then went directly to purchase a box of 30-30 winchester ammunition.
I gave the rifle a nice cleaning and the following day took it to the gun range. From the first shot I fired my reaction was WOW! I know, I like almost every gun but seriously this rifle is awesome.
I will tell you it has a whole lot of boom when fired but the recoil does not match the boom. The recoil was much less than I actually expected it to be.
Now let's get down to the nitty gritty of it. I tested the rifle at 50 yards, 100 yards, 200 yards and 250 yards. Each and every shot placed beautifully within a 2 inch diameter. Again, I have to reiterate when I get shot groups like this it is not because I am that great of a shot as much as the quality of the weapon I am firing.
Not only was this rifle accurate but it was extremely fun to fire. The lever action was everything I thought it would be and more, it was smooth and fast. The rifle was well balanced and really easily held by me, an average size gal. The weight of the rifle was also easily tolerable for us gals. Compared to my Mosin it weighs almost nothing. Now I will say that this particular rifle had some-what of a hair trigger but from my reseach I believe this was simply a symptom of this particular rifle and not common among the Marlin 336's.
Overall this is a great rifle for both hunting or any shooting sports.
